What began as a dream of owning a business for Matt Bekebrede turned into a life changing adventure that has brought Vino Cellars and our family of businesses to where we are today!
Matt started Vino Cellars back in 2007 as a single man with ambitions of growing his small wine shop into somewhere where people would come to find not only great wine but also a place where they would feel comfortable and not intimidated as wine buying can sometimes be! What he didn’t expect was to meet his future wife shortly after opening the store.
Steph came into Vino looking for wine and found so much more. The couple married New Years Eve 2008. Steph became a sounding board and support system that has allowed Matt to develop Vino into what it is today.
Matt’s background in the restaurant industry and growing trends on the east and west coasts sparked a desire to add a little something more the the wine shop. Matt started by adding educational classes and wine dinners. The goal to give customers a place to come and have fun with wine. In 2011 Matt decided to add a lounge aspect to the store, wanting to offer customers a place to come and enjoy wine with other likeminded individuals without the hassle of a bar setting. In 2012 more changes came with a move a few doors down into a larger space. The little wine shop had grown into something more.
In 2013 the next chapter started. As a couple with a busy family and hectic schedules, Matt and Steph enjoyed spending an afternoon relaxing on the deck at the Gourmet Grocer, sharing a bottle of wine and some snacks. These visits sparked many discussions of how exciting it would be to add the “Vino Cellars” touch to the Grocer. Steph wanted the chance to offer something unique to the community she grew up in. In August 2013 talks began with Steve and Mandy Hoffman, owners of the Gourmet Grocer, of how to add the “Vino Cellars” touch to. New Years 2014 started with a big addition to the Vino Family: Vino Cellars at the Lake (formerly the Gourmet Grocer), Mary Jane’s Cafe and The Loft Lakeview Suite.
With the addition of the new store, cafe and suite, Steph has become more active in the day to day operations of the store in her hometown of Kimberling City. She brings a wealth of knowledge of the area and a true passion for not only the businesses but to bring something unique to her hometown.
Bistro 58 was born when Mary Jane Bolt decided it was time for retirement. It did not feel right to continue using her name, so Matt and Steph began trying to come up with a concept that fit themselves. With love of the lake and all of the fantastic memories Matt and Steph have of summers spent playing, it was decided to honor the year Table Rock Lake became official. The lake is a source of many happy memories in this area we all call home. Make sure to stop in and enjoy the fantastic food Bistro 58 has to offer.
